Why shows?

It wasn't really our intention to participate in shows, but with a dog as beautiful as Nala it is difficult to resist. To get a feeling of what it was like, and what a judge would think off Nala we participated at the (non FCI) Young Dog show of the Amstaff Club. With 27 entries in her class and me as a lousy, first time handler, Nala ended with the best 8 and got an excellent qualification. We got a taste for more and continued. For some time I handled Nala myself. Nevertheless she always ended with being one of the 4 qualified dogs in her class, despite high entries. We did get the feeling that I just wasn't good enough and we needed a good handler, and Nala's breeder Paul and his handler Rudi handled her for a couple of shows. At the end Lies Dusbaba, breeder of Staffordshire Bull Terriers, has taken up handling of Nala. When Simba also started to participate in shows we've picked up the handling again ourselves. We started to really enjoy doing shows, proud to see Nala and the other show quality dogs of the breed, the contact with other Amstaff lovers. At time we are even atracted by the soap like environment, with all its intrigues. For some a source of frustration, but for thos that can keep things in perspective and don't take things to serious, a source of additional entertainment.

At the start this originated from the wish to have a litter from Nala, and a title was a means to facilitate finding good homes. It ended up becoming a hobby we cannot say goodbye to.
